This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade teacher in the city of Chicago. There are many challenges that face my students each day. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are from low-income families. The majority of our families fall below the poverty level.

Despite all of this, I am lucky to be working with a group of students who are eager and motivated to learn.

Their eagerness motivates me to find new ways to improve instruction. The pride and excitement on their faces as they are growing as learners is very rewarding.

My Project

This year, I have been incorporating more math centers into my math curriculum. My students have really enjoyed the math centers that we are currently working on in our math centers and I have seen great success in using them to practice essential math skills. My hope is that my students will have continued success and enjoyment in developing number sense and algebraic thinking in centers.

The materials that I am asking for will allow my students to master important math skills while working in cooperative groups.

These hands-on materials will allow my students to explore addition and subtraction through the use of the Student Number Lines and Math Match-Up Puzzles. They will also work on number sense with the Ten-Frames Dice and Card sets. These materials will add to the enjoyment of my students' education while giving them the needed practice of these important math skills.
