My Students

"Tell me and I FORGET. Teach me and I REMEMBER. Involve me and I LEARN." - Benjamin Franklin. Orally teaching mathematics? Students will FORGET. Pencil and paper math? They may REMEMBER. Hands-on math games and activities? That's the way to get mathematicians to LEARN.

My 2nd and 3rd grade combination class is full of curious, independent, and motivated learners.

They love math, especially the hands-on learning that it offers. It is a known fact that children learn much more by "doing". By manipulating and exploring numbers, children gain a better understanding of number sense that can be applied to every area of mathematics: operations, algebra, geometry, problem solving, etc. The Common Core Standards emphasize studying numbers and gaining a solid understanding of how numbers are made and what they mean.

My Project

These hands-on mathematics games and resources will allow my students to explore and collaborate over math activities. They will have the opportunity to work independently as well as with others to master mathematical concepts. These materials will engage my students and motivate them so much more than a pencil and paper task could ever do.

A solid mathematical foundation is key to success in later mathematical areas.

By allowing children to explore and be active learners in mathematics, it gives them the opportunity to be problem solvers and internalize a true number sense.
