My Students

In a low-income community where more than half of the students have free or reduced-price lunch, not every child has the opportunity to be prepared for school. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many children have been indoors and separated from friends and family. This school year will look different, but no matter what the challenge is, I hope to build a strong foundation for their education.

There are a variety of learners in my classroom who have been anxiously waiting to learn at school.

Many of them have been at home with limited resources to support their education. They have not had access to manipulatives and other tools to help them solve problems and learn independently. I also have several English Language Learners who learn more with engaging materials than computers.

I listen to parent feedback about how excited their children are to attend school, be a part of a school community, and begin their long road of learning. They are eager to dive in no matter what challenges or setbacks may arise over the next few months. This speaks magnitudes to the fearless personality of young children! We are ready to learn!

My Project

Students love to work with any manipulative they can count, group, sort, and feel with their hands. Having a variety of manipulatives such as farm animals, ocean animals, and translucent chips give students choices when selecting their tools to do a variety of operations. Understanding counting and how to represent numbers is a very important skill learned early in math.

Counters are fun to use and math games create excitement during math stations and small group!

The Pop Add games have three different levels with addition to 10, 20, and 30. This helps build fact fluency with addition and differentiate between students. The Doubles Dice will give them a unique tool to use for adding or subtraction. All of the little counters and manipulatives can be used for story problems, counting collections, addition and subtraction, building patterns, sorting, and so much more!
