This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching third graders in all core subjects. I have known almost my entire class since they were in kindergarten. I have watched them grow into responsible and caring individuals that support each other.
My third graders are bursting with curiosity and the will to learn as much as they can.
They are strong willed and filled with personality. Although they are chatty, they are often helping each other learn and asking questions.
My students attend a high poverty school with Title I services. English language learners make up half of our student population. What our school lacks in resources, we make up for in determination to succeed.
My Project
My district is currently remote learning and are planning to move to a hybrid model. Usually in class we share math manipulatives, but for student safety we will not be able to when we return.
These boxes and materials will allow each student to have their own math kit in a pencil box so the materials are readily and safely available.
They will allow students to be able to work at their own desk using the hands-on math materials necessary for learning. The Common Core Standards require students to use fraction pieces and rulers to show their learning, which will not be possible during the pandemic.
I am asking for a pencil box to store the materials for each student. In each box, the students will have their own ruler, multiplication dice set, fraction pieces, and clock.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
