Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny San Pedro, California where children come to school each morning ready to learn and grow! There's never a dull moment in our class. My students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, engage and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. We need more instructional materials for the children to engage with, materials that will foster their interest in technology, literacy, math, science, art and engineering. Every single one of my students deserves a fair chance at having his or her potential nurtured and fully developed. My little ones have an insatiable curiosity, that's why it's important for me to have a class with a variety of instructional materials to meet their educational needs.

My Project

With the Geostix my students will have the hands-on practice opportunity to snap together the flexible Geosticks and make 2D shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, hexagons, pentagons and more.

Furthermore, my students will use the 1 inch color cubes to learn number sense.

The children will be counting the cubes to learn the concept of one- to - one correspondence which is a foundation math skill that fosters learning to count objects to 10 and beyond and to recognize the number of objects by counting.

With the Magnetic Math Learning Rods - Complete Set, my students will get tons of practice with shape sorting, shape identification, counting and size discrimination. They will also, be practicing identifying similarities and differences among a set of objects and to group and name them accordingly. This kind of organization is an introductory math skill which is a precursor to more complex math.
