Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 4th grade teacher. Our school is mainly composed of Latino and Caucasian students.

95% of the students are Latinos and they come from low income families.

This school uses the 90/10 model. This means that the lower grades learn 90% in Spanish and 10% in English. As the students get older they start to learn more English. By sixth grade all students should be completely bilingual. Students in their last year will be taught using 50% English and 50% Spanish. There is a big demand for enrollment and a huge waiting list. I want to mention that the parents of the students that attended last year were very satisfied with the school and the model we use. Most students are coming back and kindergarten is completely full and has a long waiting list.

My Project

I am a 4th grade Math teacher and I teach an overall of 86 students. Learning Math can be difficult and frustrating, but when students are learning in a cooperative way and using manipulatives, it becomes a real experience for them!

Using these hands on activities help students to internalize the concepts and understand better.

Forth grade we do multiplication problems, fractions, decimals and divisions.

In my class we do cooperative learning, that's why I'm purchasing various set, so all the students partners in my class have a set for their own. I believe that with these materials my students will be really successful this year and in their future.
