This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our first graders will need dry erase number line whiteboards and Lakeshore Building Math Skills Write & Wipe Boards, in order to help them conceptualize and solve math problems and clearly communicate their thinking to others.
With these clear bins, our first grade students will begin to develop math practices that will serve as the foundation for their mathematical understanding going forward.
According to the CA Math Framework:
"In the early grades, students experiment with representing problem situations in multiple ways, including writing numbers, using words (mathematical language), drawing pictures, using objects, acting out, making a chart or list, or creating equations. Students need opportunities to connect the different representations and explain the connections. They should be able to use any of these representations as needed."
These hands-on math manipulatives will provide each student with developmentally and age-appropriate materials to become first-grade mathematicians!
