Do you remember when you were a child and you had a favorite book that you just wanted to read over and over again. I want to provide that opportunity to my students through a storytelling center. They will be able to retell and act out stories over and over again.
My students live in Florida.
They are a very diversified groups of students. There are many economic differences along with many cultural diversities. Some of my students have attended preschool, with lots of opportunities for learning and growth. Others have not been in any kind of school before kindergarten.
My Project
I have asked for a variety of puppets, flannel board activities, and 12 storytelling kits of some of the most popular childrens books. The children will be able to read a story like Corduroy, Silly Sally or Rainbow Fish (or have one read to them), and then be able to fully engage themselves in the literature. By immersing themselves in a piece of literature, they will be able to retell and sequence the story, both which help a child to comprehend what they are reading. A storytelling center will also provide my students with a way to be actively engaged, animated, and engrossed in wonderful works of literature.
I have been an early childhood educator for ten years.
As an early childhood professional, I feel that children learn best by being actively engaged. My philosophy holds true for kindergarten students as well. This is my first year teaching kindergarten and I want to be able to provide as much hands on literacy as possible. The materials I receive will be used for many years to come and will be enjoyed by countless kindergarten students.
