This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a Life Skills class. The students in my class have either Autism or Down Syndrome, and some of them are nonverbal. They all come from low-income families and most of them come from single-parent homes.

My students need lots of hands-on materials and the COVID-19 school closure has been extremely difficult for them.

I am teaching them virtually. My students come from low income and most from single parent homes. They don't have the resources they need at home to keep learning. Some of them are having a hard time logging into the computer for class. I would like to be able to get them puzzles, cards and games that they can do on their own.

My Project

As a special education teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure that my students get the help they need in order to keep learning.

My students are special people with special needs.

They are all able to learn at their own pace and in their own different way. I plan to make copies of the items in the math folder game library so students can use them at home to develop their math skills. The alphabet puzzles, design cards and journals will also go home to students. These materials will help them keep learning from home during the COVID-19 school closure. The school closure has been very difficult on them. They need to have material to work with, so they don't forget what they have already learned. They need different things so they can stay interested in learning activities.
