Hands on Learning

My Students

I teach special education Kindergarten and my wonderful students all have various special needs. They are incredible kids who have challenges with communication, behavior, social skills, and various developmental delays.

My students learn best by engaging in hands on activities where they are able to explore learning materials.

My students love learning and giving them different learning opportunities is crucial for their development. In my classroom my students love learning about living things and hatching chicks in a great experience.

My Project

My classroom is in need of a new incubator to use when hatching chicks. My students love learning about life cycles each year. This new incubator will give them observation windows to watch what is happening with the eggs and allow them to see the chicks in the first days of life.

My class loves using the sensory table and are always excited to experience new things.

My classroom is also in need of kinetic sand. My students love using the sensory table and exploring different textures through touch. We use sand, water, beads, rice, beans, and even snow in our table throughout the year. Kinetic sand is a great addition because it holds it shape and allows students to use molds and stamps to create and learn. We have a small amount of kinetic sand in the classroom now, but only one child can use it at a time. Having enough for the table will allow groups of students to play cooperatively and learn together.

Lastly, I am asking for pencil grips to support my students with their writing skills. Many of my students struggle with fine motor skills and writing can be especially difficult for young children. Having appropriate pencil grips, that fit both pencils and markers, encourages children to use correct finger placement.
