Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students learn best when they are immersed in dynamic, hands-on activities. When they are engaged with interactive lessons, I can feel the neural pathways in their brains lighting up! Every day brings new opportunities for active engagement and learning to my students' maximum potential.

My classroom is a beautiful tapestry of unique personalities.

Most of my students are bilingual, and together they speak a total of 6 languages and represent 6 continents. They lead culturally-rich lives, in spite of facing limited access to many resources. My students are athletes, scientists, musicians, orators, comedians, mathematicians, peacekeepers, readers and writers. They are a reflection of our school, and they are beautiful!

My Project

These resources will serve two very important functions this year. First, the iPad keyboards and cases will support our focus on college readiness by enabling students to develop keyboarding skills while they create, revise, edit and publish five paragraph essays on our classroom iPads. Second, the science materials will provide students with hands-on, engaging science activities that will inspire a love of science while building a strong knowledge base.

Science and writing are the two content areas in which my students have struggled the most.

Only one-third of my students are proficient writers, and 20% of my students entered fifth grade proficient in science. My goal by the end of the school year is to increase those numbers! I want to raise those statistics to show that at least 60% of my students are proficient in writing and science. With your help, I will make a difference in these students' lives!
