Hands-On Learning Toys for Little Learners!

Help me give my students hands-on learning toys. Items such as learning gears and peg boards allow young students to build their fine motor skills in preparation for writing.

My Project

Gears and peg boards support young students in developing their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills support traditional academic tasks as writing. Peg boards and also support early mathematics by assisting students in learning to identify numerals and build sets of objects to match a numeral. These items also support the development of critical social skills, as the items are used with peers during center time. My goal for this project is to be able to supply the early childhood special education classrooms I support with hands-on learning materials that are play-based. The students I work with are unique because they are learning in inclusive classrooms with their nondisabled peers. Students with disabilities learning side-by-side their nondisabled peers has been shown to be the most effective way to support the development of young learners who have special needs.
