My Project
We need a sewing machine, an ironing board, and scissors. I am requesting these materials for my after-school club, where students learn how to design and construct wearable items using fabric, notions and a sewing machine. Through fashion design, students gain hands-on experience with the creative process of making a garment from scratch. A variety of knowledge can be gained from fashion design, such as material resourcing, recycling and upcycling used clothing, the impact of fashion (both negative and positive), and the history of fashion design.
Aside from these notable learning objectives, students are encouraged to express themselves through this unique art medium in a safe space.
I will teach them how to use each of the requested materials safely and properly. My goal is to harness each child's creativity using fashion as a medium. I have a set number of projects planned for this club that range in various difficulty levels.
