My goal for this project is to be able to provide my students with a well rounded and diverse hands on and sensory experience to help mold their little brains and bodies to set them up for academic success.
My students come from low Income families and face a lot of adversity outside of school, they require occupational therapy support to learn new skills and to be successful within the classroom environment.
Despite the difficulties my students may face outside of school, they are eager to learn. I love that they are motivated to persevere and overcome the challenges that they face. The students want to come to school, they thrive when they get to work hands on with new therapy tools and supplies.
Donations to this project will feed the hunger these children have to learn and be successful in and out of school.
The cash register will be used to count money and teach basic counting skills to help promote independence in and out of school.
The letter games and fine motor toys will be used to work on hand strength and learn how to write and how to read.
The snacks will be used as a sensory tool to give the kids some energy, so that they are in a state physically where they are ready to learn.
The headphones are a sensory tool and will be used to limit auditory distractions for children who are over stimulated with loud noises so that they can concentrate.
The pencils and construction paper will be used to work on writing and cutting skills for increased success with academics and fine motor skills necessary for success in and out of school.
