Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school eager and excited to learn. We are a low income/high poverty school, and all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, and have limited exposure to English at home.
Today is the day to smile and learn something new!
I start every day with that statement to remind them that every day is as important and special as they are. I am amazed in all that they learn and do.
My Project
My students are eager and ready to learn! Young children, like my 4 and 5 year old students, need to learn from hands-on experiences. This makes what they are learning fun, engaging, and memorable. Seeing pictures of someone build or paint is helpful, but being able to experience and do it yourself is the most meaningful. Materials like beginner scissors and smocks will allow my students the chance to use their fine motor skills with art. A drying rack will give us space to dry art projects, while others also get to participate.
These hands-on experiences will enhance student knowledge, and give them the tools necessary to become scientists, mathematicians, readers, and writers!
Students will practice their fine motor, math, and science skills while building with Magna Tiles. They will review the math and reading skills learned with the Self Checking Magnetic Boards and the Self-Checking Cards. My preschool students will practice learning letter sounds with games like the Alphabet Mystery Box and Alphabet Rockets. Students will review and practice science, math, and fine motor skills using the 3-D Geometric Shapes. The Squeeze, Scoop & Count Ice Cream Shop will allow students a chance to practice counting skills, and use fine motor grasping skills in a fun and engaging way. Overall my students will gain problem-solving skills, confidence, and independence as they interact with these materials.
