My Students
"Wow! We did it! This is awesome!"- 5 year old girl while using the Osmo number system.
Many of my students enter kindergarten with limited experiences in reading, writing, and math.
I have an active group of 5 & 6 year olds who excel when given hands-on learning opportunities.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and many are from low-income families. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch. We are a small school in one of the larger cities in Maine.
My Project
Several years ago, through a grant, my classroom was able to get an Osmo system. Osmo allows for my students to practice reading, spelling, and important math skills to be successful learners in school. In addition, my students are practicing problem solving, communication, and team building skills by working together when using the Osmo system. When using the various apps and hand-on pieces, I have observed tremendous growth with my students, not only in their academics, but also with their communication, working together, and problem solving skills.
I am seeking to expand my current system to include a second kit so that more students may play at a time and to include the coding pieces for two additional Coding games.
Teaching kids to code in school is so important. It teaches students how to think creatively, build critical thinking skills, and opens doors to new possibilities!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
