This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching social studies and science to all of our 3rd graders this year! They love to learn and get their hands dirty. My students live in an extremely low-income area which often limits their exposure to life experiences. Because of this, I try to bring as many real-life discoveries into our classroom that I can. My students take on every challenge head-on and would love to have a science-based classroom!
My students work really hard to achieve our classroom goals, I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
That includes having the support and resources they need to help them build their love for science and education!
My Project
During these increasingly difficult times, students have had to make many adjustments and sacrifices to their learning. They have had to learn from a distance, without the support of their peers, families and sometimes even their teachers! One thing that I want to give back to my students as they come to our classroom this fall is their hands-on learning. In Science, I try to have a "STEM Friday" each week. This is where students have the opportunity to build using their own imaginations. I give all students the same goal, and their only job is to achieve that goal however they want! It is so exciting to watch kids have the exact same materials, but have completely different products and processes. It is one of things I look forward to the most in our classroom. Due to the classroom guidelines, students will not be able to share materials.
This means, I need to find a way to get students each their own STEM materials and a safe place to store them, if we want to continue our hands-on approach to learning.
I know that this isn't a necessity for our classroom materials, but it is my favorite way to reach those reluctant scientists. Thank you so much for considering our classroom project!
