Help me give my students materials they need to succeed. Manipulatives and sensory supports will help our students stay regulated. The games will help students work on fine motor skills & important ELA & Math skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are working on math, science, ela, social pragmatic, and functional living skills. Most have cognitive impairments or multiple disabilities which prevent them from learning successfully in typical classroom settings. Many of these children come from low income backgrounds where meeting daily needs is a challenge.
Even still, my students love to learn; especially through hands on activities.
They require additional supports to help them stay focused and regulated throughout the school day.
Given the current situation, every child needs their own version of materials we are finding ourselves struggling to keep up with the demand of supplies needed to help our wonderful students learn.
My Project
I work with 3 other talented ladies. We work with students with significant disabilities ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. Our students are learning academic skills such as science, reading, letters, and math, as well as functional daily living skills including self regulation, cooking, hygiene, cleaning and plant care.
My students love to learn, but many of them become over or under stimulated throughout the school day, preventing them from staying focused on the curriculum.
Many of the students need fun hands on activities to help them stay focused on what they are learning. The assorted math activities such as the nuts about counting, and the pop and add activities will help keep them interested in learning.
The students we teach need help with fine motor tasks. The Nuts About Counting, Play Doh mats, and pre writing activities will help our students strengthen their muscles as well as help them learn academics.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
