This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my third year teaching most students of color and over 50% multilingual learners (ML). I am honored to use my skills as a certified math teacher to help my students become confident mathematicians. In addition to teaching MLs, I have classes with special education students, some of whom are also MLs. My students are learning to read, say, and understand new vocabulary. The manipulatives allow this by combining words, numbers, and, most importantly, pictures through exploration.

The activities and games incorporate multiplication facts and comparing fractions, allowing the students to work collaboratively with one another using math vocabulary.

It also encourages them to strengthen prerequisite math skills, explain mathematical errors, and justify their answers. The goal is to support learning content standards, strengthen conversational skills, and lower stress and anxiety while my students learn and participate in class.

The remaining items in my cart, such as the cleaning wipes, are items I need to keep the classroom clean and organized. My students deserve to learn in the safest and most inviting environment possible.
