Hands-on Learning Centers for Title 1 Students in NYC!
Help me give my students a complete set of literacy and math centers and games to engage students through hands-on learning and application of the 2nd grade curriculum.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Glass's classroom raised $666
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach in a 2nd grade, ICT classroom (Integrated Co-Teaching) which is an inclusion room with students with and without disabilities. My students love to learn and integrating more hands-on learning will engage them as well as better prepare them for the their futures.
We are a high-needs, Title I school located in a low-income neighborhood.
I am a teacher in a high poverty/low-income school district. My students are faced with challenges in and out of the classroom. My goal is to create a caring classroom environment where students receive meaningful and applicable learning experiences every day.
My Project
My students need student-driven literacy and math learning centers to apply their knowledge in fun and meaningful ways. The Instant Learning Centers and Games will build upon and review learned skills.
These centers will target specific needs of my students while promoting collaboration and problem-solving skills.
The curriculum-aligned centers will support my students with learning disabilities by including visuals, hands-on learning, peer-to-peer support, teacher support, and specifically chosen centers based on data. The centers will also benefit my students with ADHD by involving hands-on ways of learning in different areas around the room. My students with speech and language impairments will benefit from extra phonics and grammar practice which are included in the set too.
Currently, my class has eight center rotations, for both math and literacy (teacher, independent, technology, and center). My students tend to require movement and consistent engagement to stay on task. These centers will keep the kids excited about learning during the rotation while promoting meaningful conversation related to the content.
I can create an environment where some students are working on matching verb tenses using the Instant Learning box, for example, while I am working with a small group on phonics. Another group will be working on skills using technology and the other is independently working. Every kid will be on task and fully engaged in their learning based on their needs.
The children will build academic growth and social-emotional skills including peer-to-peer support, communication skills, growth mindset, and problem solving. The centers support their academic and social-emotional growth in a meaningful and exciting way.
