Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This past year, I have been using the Orton-Gillingham approach that I was trained in, and am now a coach for the Literacy Fellowship for my school district. With this approach, students learn language by ear (listening), mouth (speaking), eyes (seeing), and hand (writing). Through direct, explicit instruction, it progresses logically at the primary level and progresses to more advanced concepts that build upon the previous skill learned, with practice and review. These new centers will help my students to access reading and writing concepts in a fun and engaging way and ultimately increase their academic achievement!
