Help me give my students the supplies for more hands-on learning during this pandemic. Using resources from Teachers Pay Teachers has many of the interactive labs for me to print out for the students to complete!
My students live in a small rural community. Most of their families have been here for generations and have farmed the land or work in the mills here. When social and economic needs outweigh the necessity of an education, what can we do to keep our kids in school until graduation? How can we challenge them and engage them to show up on a daily basis and invest in their educations?
My group of 6th grade students are very inquisitive and love hands-on activities.
They learn Science through experiments and labs to explore their knowledge. Since this pandemic, it has been a struggle to reach all the needs of students through virtual learning! They need rigor in order to grow as learners and they need guidance in order to grow as human beings. Most of all, they need the real world in their classroom. They need to see that what we do in school will shape what they do in the future.
My Project
Through this transition from in-person to Virtual learning, I have found it most effective for my students to experience Science with hands-on labs. With this pandemic, it has put us at a standstill. Everything is virtual. Students need more than just a computer and my face to learn.
I want to create Lab kits for my students so they can still have hands-on learning at home.
These kits will be sent or picked up from school so the students have the opportunity to explore their learning. We will do the labs together in our Zoom classes. This is a fantastic visual for students to not only learning virtually but hands-on as well.
I have seen other teachers try this with success. I have collected data from surveys from my parents and students. They are thrilled! I want to do more! These lab kits are my way to reach out a little bit more for the students to learn.
