My Project
I am requesting these items in order to enrich my students learning of human anatomy and physiology. Although I have requested the absolute minimum, the exposure of these specimens to students during classroom instruction will allow them to have first-hand experiences with topics which may seem abstract when taught solely by way of concept learning.
My goals for this project is to teach students at an in-depth level, the structure, function, and relationship of various aspects of the human body.
These specimens will provide the students opportunities to associate classroom learning with real world organisms. It will assist students to describing and explaining how body systems interact to maintain homeostasis as well as counter when possible unhealthy states of existence. Finally, the roles of diverse careers in the sciences will be explored.
All students are special in their own way. However, the student population that I serve is diverse (Hispanic, African American, Asian, and more), 90% or more of our students are on free lunch, 90% of the students that I teach are identified as 504 or Special Education, and bilingual. To add, I have serve a growing population of female students who become pregnant prior to graduating from high school. Thus, the student population is highly underserved. On the other hand, I am fortunate to work with 100% of students who demonstrate a willingness to learn, to dream, and to improve their livelihood. Thus, it is my purpose to provide students with the optimal instruction, resources, and support that I am capable of bringing before them.
