My Project

My wish is create monthly dramatic play/ STEM bins that I can change out based on monthly themes. I would like to have at least 10 different set ups so that ideas and creativity are always flowing and changing. I would like to add sensory items into the mix as well to help with fine motor development. My goal of having different dramatic play set ups is to engage them in things that are aligned to our science and social studies standards.

Pretend play is one of the most effective ways to help young children learn important academic skills in school.

Many students are spending more and more time on screens and videogames at home and missing the crucial development of pretend play. Young children develop many social-emotional and academic skills when they’re engaged in dramatic play. When you give your kids uninterrupted chunks of time to play, they develop increased attention spans. Young children talk to each other in the dramatic play center. Talking to their peers freely helps them develop critical vocabulary skills. Talking to each other helps with understanding and speaking skills, which are important for reading success in the future. Concepts like sharing and taking turns are important life skills that can be learned while engaging in daily dramatic play experiences. Pretend play is an important part of developing social skills. When kids play together, they interact with each other, which naturally improves social skills.
