Hands-On Interactive Math and Technology Project

My students need iPads to practice reading/math skills independently. My students need the interactive math teaching labs and manipulatives to help increase math skills.

My Students

Our classroom is a bustling place of constant learning. We feel it is important to challenge our students intellectually while also stimulating their interest through the use of technology and movement. We want our students to be able to master the skills we teach and apply them independently.

We are an ICT classroom of 28 bright and eager to learn students.

We have a mixed range of abilities, ranging from above grade level to well below grade level. We have two teachers and two paraprofessionals in order to meet the needs of all the students in the room. Our students are intellectually stimulated through the use of technology and love using the Smartboard. Some of our students have difficulty sitting still or remaining focused when the work becomes too difficult or disengaging for them. It is important for us to find ways to keep them engaged in the lessons, and technology is the best way to keep their attention.

My Project

The Interactive Math Teaching Lab will be a great asset to our classroom by helping to keep every student active and engaged. The use of technology stimulates their interest and the manipulatives help to keep them on task, all while reinforcing the concepts we are teaching in class. These activities will really help them to grasp and apply the math concepts and skills, such as place value, fractions, and money, that are necessary for them to continue thriving as students. The iPads will help us to support our struggling students using apps and websites that are designed to give them extra help where it is needed. They will also help to challenge and push our above grade level students through the use of research projects. The iPads will also be used during station teacher, where students get an opportunity to work with both teachers and well as independently. We do not get the opportunity to visit the computer lab often, so the iPads will help bring technology into our classroom.

Donations to this project will help increase student involvement and engagement within our classroom.

We have a mixed range of abilities and many students that have specific management needs and require extra support. Engaging lessons and activities that require them to get up and use the Smartboard as well as use manipulatives at their seats will keep them active and engaged in the lesson. The iPads will help to stimulate interest and keep students focused during independent work.
