This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The challenge that I am facing is that students are not excited about learning anymore. I want them to be just as excited about school. Maybe having these Ipad mini's, pick a math skill builder and problem solving warm-up games and dry erase board a can bring learning back to life.

My students are from low income families around Texas.

Many of my students don't have computers at home. The parents are not motivated about school and therefore the students are not either. I have students that don't have one book at home to read. Many of my students are raising other siblings at home. Using these devices will help them to learn in a different way and make them more excited about learning. My goal is to excite the students so much about learning that the parents wants to become more involved in their learning. The students in my classroom all have different strengths and show me these every day. I feel the need to expand the resources in my classroom to help all students learn in the way that fits them best.

My Project

I plan on using the tablets in my small group lessons and in one on one sessions with those students who are struggling in Math. I plan to show them that learning can be fun and you can learn in many different ways. I have researched some apps that will help my students with learning their math facts. Flash cards are of the past, but if they see that same math fact fly on the screen and they have to touch the answer, learning has just become the coolest thing in town. I believe hands-on activities will enhance their learning experiences. Many of the items on my wish list include class sets that make it possible for ALL my children to participate. When we are learning new content at times student don't understand the concept. Using the hands on tools many math content will be met as the students see the learning come to life. I want my students to be a part of the learning process and have access to any materials that will help them succeed.

Having this request granted would mean the world to my students.

I have been teaching for six years and I have never seen so many small children not care about their education. This truly breaks my heart and I want to be that teacher that brings education back to life for them.
