Hands-On History: Fossils And More!

My students need hands-on materials to discover history and geography including fossils, rocks, arrowheads, informational cards, and wooden storage bins.

My Students

Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.

I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with twenty eight first through third grade students.

My students learn though small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out into our community. My students come from all different backgrounds racially and socioeconomically and live in an urban setting.

My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education.

My Project

In our Montessori classroom, we look at the past through many lenses: history, geography, geology, botany, and biology. We look at timelines that give students the impression of how vast our collective history is.

As we study the evolution of species, students crave a hands-on experience.

The materials in this project will supplement existing curriculum materials, bringing them to life.

Students will experience how fossils are formed, become detectives identifying past remains, identify patterns and cause and effect relationships, and delve into the forces that created Earth's rocks and minerals. These processes will deepen students critical thinking skills in a fun, inviting, hands-on way. We will use the essential oil boxes with dividers to store our specimens.
