This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Learning math involves new experiences, making connections, and testing ideas, all of which are improved with social interaction and the appropriate tools. Virtual manipulatives for learning math are available online, but students struggle to understand how tools like protractors and compasses work until they have used them in their hands. My students need new and classic geometry tools for hands-on learning. I look forward to taking my students outside to measure the heights of palm trees using mirrors, protractors, string, straws and candy!

My students will be soon be doing copious amounts of graphing and coordinate plane work while standing at whiteboards.

Having graph paper is great for working alone, and having large dry erase graphs are excellent for learning in groups. Even for a seasoned professional, drawing a graph on a whiteboard is difficult without a grid. My students need dry erase grids that will make graphing faster and more legible. With these tools, students will spend more time thinking and less time making coordinate grids.
