it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher serving a low income area, there are specific challenges that my students face both in and out of the classroom. These eager and excited young students come to school every day ready to learn and happy to explore. Unfortunately, situations beyond their control threaten their success on a daily basis.
Many of my students have a difficult time securing the basic supplies they'll need for daily use.
For this reason, my projects on DonorsChoose.org are of vital importance to my students. I believe that it is my duty to provide these exceptional young thinkers the best opportunities that I possibly can. My diverse group of dedicated and inquisitive students will get the chance they deserve with the help of these resources.
My Project
I am requesting supplies to make my word wall magnetic. Studies show that students need a print rich environment and easy access to high frequency words. The word wall in our classroom displays these high frequency words which we call heart words: words we know by heart. Our heart words look amazing now, but aren't very easy for the kids to access.
A magnetic word wall would make it easy for students to use words at their desk and put them back on the wall all on their own.
Using magnets, students could have a more hands on experience and make the word wall more useful to them in their work.
