Hands-On Fraction Materials

My students need hands-on fraction tools, fraction flip books, and dry erase boards to aid in mastery of fractions. Measurement and data stamps with also help with mastering time concepts.

My Students

Students love to learn using hands-on manipulatives that really let them explore new and challenging math concepts.

I teach math to two third grade classes at a STEM school on the west side of Chicago.

Our school has a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. These students are excited about math, and many will tell you quickly and without a second thought that math is their favorite subject.

My Project

Fractions are a major concept in the third grade math standards. This concept is often hard for students to grasp, and visuals are a major part of the learning process. Many students also excel with using hands-on manipulatives to explore this concept. Students will use these materials to compare and find equivalent fractions, in groups and individually, and to create and visualize fractions on a number line.

These materials will help my students talk about, visualize and solve problems using fraction concepts.

By using dry erase boards, we will also cut back on paper, which is great for the environment, (something that is also close to my students' hearts!).
