My Students
First graders need to move, discover and explore. They need hands-on materials and games that can help them practice the skills they are currently learning. My students work in small groups every day. They need materials to supplement what I am teaching.
I have a very diverse group of students.
They are diverse in every possible way! However, they are sweet, smart, curious, and inquisitive. They like to explore and "show what they know." I have been a math coach for five years and during that time, I have seen students completing worksheets and have been bored with school. I want to make school fun and exciting for my students by providing them with hands-on materials and games for learning.
My Project
I am requesting hands-on materials including Fill-In-The-Blank Addition & Subtraction and Phonics Stamps, Rubber Stamps, Pop & Add to 12 Game, Operations Folder Game Library, Coins Rubber Stamp Set, Giant Magnetic Ten Frames and different colored Giant Kid-Safe Stamp pads.
Students have just learned "magic e" to make vowel sounds long. What do they do next? They use Fill-In-The-Blank phonics stamps to build long vowel words. Students have just learned the meaning of the equal sign. What do they do next? They play a game in which they balance equations using the Pop & Add to 12 Game. Sounds fun! This is how I envision these resources being used. I envision fun, engaging small group or independent activities students can do to demonstrate newly learned skills.
