Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love to learn and the best way to teach them is visually. I want my students to become more confident in speaking and expressing their thoughts and ideas. They adore me as much as I adore them, and we are a team in my classroom!
I have a total of 25 students, all of which are ELL's and many with high needs.
Most of them are in the beginning stage of speaking and listening. They are a joy to teach every day and are growing by leaps and bounds! Our school is very diverse and we have a strong administrative team with backgrounds in ESL. Our students come from many different countries including China, Burma, Nepal, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Uganda, Vietnam and more. Their families want them to learn and be successful in life. I am proud to call these children my students.
My Project
Every day my students participate in literacy learning centers while I conduct guided reading groups. My students needs basic activities that they can do independently. I have been struggling with time due to constantly creating my own activities which takes a lot of preparation. My students will learn how to distinguish between beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. They will be provided with organized instructional materials that will boost their pre-reading skills and also be easy to use and easy clean up. They learn best through graphics and visuals, which these magnetic letter tiles and phonics activity boards will also provide.
My students need extensive support in reaching the academic goals of kindergarten.
These materials will improve their rate of learning and their ability to acquire the English language at a faster rate. My students will be one step closer to our classroom goal of being a successful student and one day attending college and establishing a career!
