Hands on Equations Equals Algebra Learning

My students need one Hands on Equations Class set for 30 students, an Instructional DVD, and an Verbal Problem Book.

I am a third grade teacher in an Urban Charter School in Northern New Jersey. Our students come from mostly low income households and often miss out on a variety of opportunities that the students in surrounding areas have.

Algebraic thinking is something that is so very abstract for most students. Our students,who spend a lot of home time watching TV and playing video games while parents work, have trouble with creative thinking and higher level thinking. Algebra is something that helps encourage higher level thinking and can open many doors for our children once they master it.

I am asking for one class set for 30 students of the Hands on Equations set, a teacher training DVD, and a problem solving book. I use this system in another district where I taught and my students really understood Algebra. This kit takes something very abstract and makes it manipulative and hands on. Using hands on activities are the best way to teach my students.

Please consider funding this great project for my students. This will truly help to give them a leg up and create opportunities for the future. You will help to create and lay a great foundation in math for my third great students.
