Help me give my students with autism necessary items like a Cricut machine and cash register to run a craft store.

My Students
I work in a setting that is completely devoted to working with students with special needs. I am a 6:1:1, middle school, special education teacher primarily working with students with autism and intellectual disabilities. Most of my students are non-verbal. They are so remarkable though! I admire that they come to school ready to work. They are truly my reason for coming to work. They amaze me everyday. I have made it my mission as an educator, to focus on my students' abilities. After all, Dr. Temple Grandin affirms that "the world needs all kinds of minds.”
My Project
Although our school year was cut short we are incredibly proud of the progress all of our students have made in gaining skills needed in order to obtain employment in the area of food preparation. They have been preparing assorted beverages and snacks to be sold at our school cafe. Now, we want to put our creative minds to work. We are planning our next steps for when our schools finally reopen.
This project will provide our students with autism the needed items to operate a school-based craft store.
The school-based craft store will hone in on their creativity in addition to providing countless opportunities to learn on the job skills. Some of those skills include communication and socialization. Furthermore, we look to improve mathematic skills such as measuring, identifying shapes and money-handling. The items created using the Cricut Machine will be displayed during our Autism Awareness Event in addition to many other activities held throughout the school year. Our intent with the implementation of a craft store in our school is that our students will apply these skills learned to life outside of school which will improve their employment prospects.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
