Hands-on Common Core Learning

My Students

Mr. Jacobs I need a Pencil! I hear the question so often... How could my underprivileged children learn without something to write with. Mr. Jacobs, how can I research, I have no computer, and the computer lab isn't open after school. At Huey we are in desperate need of resources, and you can help!

Bright eyed and bushy tailed, my students make everyday a wonder of teaching.

My students are very hands on and enjoy doing arts and crafts and dance, but don't have the financial freedom to purchase their own supplies. My students access learning best through media and technology. With only one Laptop in the classroom that is consistently used to aid teaching, group work is difficult. My students strive to be independent. Class is like clockwork. My students have jobs and run my class for me. They take attendance, decorate the room with supplies I purchase, distribute work flawlessly, and run the PowerPoint that I create for learning. We even take the time to have dance twice a month because our arts program wasn't funded by the state. My students really want the opportunity to succeed, but coming from homes that can barely afford to feed household, supplies are of the least important. My students want technology to learn common core literacy and supplies to function as students.

My Project

I would like to acquire technology to differentiate instruction in my classroom. Frequently student's want to research social studies topics, and I have to tell them, try to go to the library, because our school lacks so much technology. My students with severe ADHD and behavioral issues would benefit from using tablets or a laptop to acquire information as they are hands on and part of their generation. Since the common core is so vocabulary and literacy based dictionaries would be very useful as an extension activity to learn vocabulary. Pencils Pens and Markers are essential for them to function in class. Finally the card stock would be used so students can create their own custom environment. It allows them to take ownership of the room by creating their very own artwork.

These supplies will allow students to feel like they can succeed in class.

The joy which children receive from school is grand. But when a student can see that they can learn something themselves, I have helped changed them for the better, and molded their life. Help my children be successful people in society by gifting us the tools necessary to succeed. My student's will love you for it, and I will continue to succeed as a new educator.
