My Project

My student population is a very colorful mix of many nationalities who have interests just as a diverse as they themselves are. I have noticed an eagerness in them to get back to "basics" in the art room. They are wanting and needing a break from their digital screens and devices.

There is no substitute for the intimate connection between one's mind, creativity, and hands when creating art.

Many of the students have never had an opportunity to use clay, and many of those who have, it was many, many years ago. I want to take advantage of their drive, and the fact that I am fortunate enough to have a working Kiln (many schools don't) to give them the experience of using their hands, and creativity on an art piece made of clay. This will allow them to dig deeper into their creativity. It also a great way to get those students with disabilities confident and comfortable in the art room. Clay is a medium which gets almost every student interested, and engaged, and is also is the ultimate hands-on project for the obvious reason that the only tools needed are your hands.
