My Project

My 8th grade Design students are some of the most curious, creative, and determined young problem-solvers you could meet. All of them attend a Title 1 school, and many have limited access to technology outside the classroom. For most, this project will be their very first experience working with artificial intelligence.

They come to class ready to explore, experiment, and turn their ideas into real-world solutions.

With Raspberry Pi computers, we can take our learning to the next level by combining hands-on building with powerful coding experiences. Students will learn Python, one of the most widely used programming languages in the world, and apply it to projects that use AI and computer vision. The Raspberry Pi cameras will allow them to create projects that can “see” and respond to their environment—whether that’s sorting objects, detecting motion, or even recognizing faces or patterns.

These resources will open doors my students never knew existed. They’ll not only see how AI works, but they’ll also create it—gaining the skills, confidence, and inspiration to imagine themselves in future STEM careers. This project will give them a first-hand look at the tools shaping our world, empowering them to become the designers and innovators of tomorrow.
