Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Project 212, the Ygnacio Valley High School robotics team is made up of highly-motivated students. We are supported by youth mentors (graduates of our robotic's program) and industry professionals.

We are a diverse group.

In 2019-2020, we had 32 active members composed of 50% Hispanic, 28% Asian, and 22% White. 40% are females and 60% are males. Over 90% of our team members receive free and reduced lunch.

Our team's mission is to provide students with real-world skills through competitive robotics and promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to our community through outreach programs. Last year, we took part in the FIRST Robotics Competition in Los Angeles. Our students also ran a week-long robotics camp in a local elementary school. We had shown our robots in numerous places including the Concord Library, Bay Area Science Festival in San Francisco, and in a neighboring elementary school's STEM night.

My Project

With the school year starting with online distance learning, our team cannot meet face-to-face after school to continue with what we all love to do - make robots.

With your help, we can continue after school robotics.

Every team member will receive an Arduino kit to take home. Our team of student leaders, youth mentors, and engineer coaches, will create a curriculum to teach Computer-Aided Design (CAD), electronics, and programming online via zoom meetings.

When school opens again, every single one of our members should have basic to intermediate understanding of robot electronics and programming. They can then use that knowledge to improve our competition robot.
