Hands-On Activities for Happy Learners

My Students

My students are incredibly curious, creative, hard working, unique learners who happen to be diagnosed with a disability. I have the privilege of being a self contained special education teacher for elementary grade grade students in a small Elementary School on Long Island. Each day, my students work diligently to overcome stereotypes, learn and grow at their unique levels, and engage in meaningful academic and social activities. Each day, my classroom staff and I strive to provide each of our students with authentic learning tasks based on each of their individualized needs. My students benefit immensely from hands on learning tasks, purposeful sensory input and real world connections. I am always seeking new resources and materials that will help me to provide a continuous variety of meaningful, appropriate, and challenging hands on tasks for my students. They are incredible children who truly shine when the are provided with tasks that are "just right."

My Project

These sensory, fine motor skill and Montessori activities will provide my students with exciting, meaningful and interesting activities that will help to strengthen precursor skills to support their growth and learning.

These materials are appropriately challenging, visually interesting and will give my students opportunities for real life learning and problem solving.

The laminating sheets, velcro, plastic pockets and plastic file folders will be used to create additional hands on learning tasks such as file folder games, visual schedules, communication boards, and social stories. My students benefit from repeated exposure and practice with skills. These supplies will help me to create a wide variety of durable, differentiated, fun learning tasks to support my students' unique learning needs.
