My Project
Hi, I am a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom. My students are 6th graders who have a lot of energy as well as trouble staying focused for an extended period of time. They enjoy learning through games and hands-on activities so I have requested a number of these items to support them in math, language arts, and science. With all the energy they exert from movement, they are constantly hungry so I have also included snacks for them to earn from participating in lessons and activities. My students need to take breaks throughout their 49-minute classes and I have included some mindfulness ideas and activities to do during these breaks. They also love having a fidget to assist them while doing seated work which can be a struggle for many of them. Many of these activities, including the team-building activity and life-skills game, involve group learning which will be beneficial to my students who have anxiety and struggle with connecting with their peers.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
