This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My moderate-severe students with disabilities attend school which is identified as high poverty. Our special education budget is very low and limited to what we can purchase for our classroom needs.

My students are hands-on learners, they need to improve their strength and dexterity in their hands and fingers so that they can perform important daily living tasks such as feeding, dressing, and handwriting.

Hands-on activities can be challenging for my students to perform because they have poor hand strength and fine motor control.

All of my students this school year have a need to learn and improve their fine motor skills. Some of my students struggle with holding a pencil, zipping, opening their food packages, and feeding themselves.

My Project

My students enjoy games, toys, and crafts. I would like to include more hands-on activities into their daily schedule by creating fine motor skills task boxes. To create these task boxes, we need supplies and games to include in the task box. They will be able to check out the boxes, practice and complete the required tasks. I hope to include fine motor toys and manipulation materials (play dough, foam). They will also need craft materials and tools to create works of art. I also want to include tools to help them with daily living skills such as using button and zip activities and or using nuts and bolts to learn how to twist open containers.

The fine motor skills games will make it fun and engaging while they learn how to use their fingers and hands.

The task boxes will not only increase fine motor development, but it will allow students to build on their cognitive, social, and independence skills.
