My students are fun loving, eager to learn children with special needs ranging in grades from kindergarten through first grade. They attend a K-1 self-contained Special Ed class in a public school in Queens.
My students are supported with hands on activities and topics they enjoy.
They love to learn about animals, plants and the natural world.
Students often work in small groups to develop academic and social skills. They are learning to collaborate with their peers and share ideas and express themselves through learning experiences.
My Project
Hands on activities make learning to read enjoyable if that skill doesn't come easy. Students with special needs will enjoy reading centers while they get to apply sight word skills while playing games like Fishing for Sight Words or taking turns popping a popper to build CVC words while playing Pop and Match beginning Sounds Games.
Students will rotate with group partners through hands on learning centers that teach through playing games to learn sight words, phonics and the alphabet.
Students will use Lakeshore Sight Word Puzzles to manually build sight words that allows them to learn as they play. Students will remain engaged as they work together practicing ELA skills and learning to share and work together.
