Teaching in-person Kindergarten during the 2021-2022 school year is going to be a challenge. I want to make sure my students are safe as they learn in our in-person Kindergarten class.
I would like to provide each of my students personal supplies and manipulatives they can use throughout the whole school year.
My Project
Kindergarten is full of children who like to use hands-on manipulatives to learn new skills. We are still dealing with COVID-19 so each student should be able to use manipulatives and supplies that they do not need to share but still be in small groups - to learn with each other. Kindergartners focus on phonological awareness and foundational math skills.
Using individual hands-on manipulatives like magnetic boards with letters, Elkonin boxes, number lines, and ten frame boards helps students experience for themselves the skills and concepts we are learning in the classroom.
Manipulatives contribute to improving and increasing student attention and focus on the things they are learning. Individual items help to slow the spread of germs and disease. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand with manipulatives we can use over and over again. Not to mention, hands-on is just more fun!
