My Students
Established in 1979, our school provides education and support services for children with hearing or vision loss in our school system. Some of the students have additional challenges that magnify the impact of the vision or hearing loss. Each of the students has special needs and requires extensive technology and assistance to succeed in a school setting.
Students attend classes at one of three locations: the elementary, middle, or high school campus.
In addition, itinerant services are provided throughout our county for students whose disability is not severe enough to require full-time placement at one of the campuses. Services are also provided in several area counties.
My Project
My students are sensory impaired and require math manipulatives to promote hands-on learning. They need to be able to physically work with the materials to understand the concept of money, fractions, and other math concepts.
They need real-world learning experiences.
The kid's cash register will promote students to learn how to deal with money. They will be able to identify, count, add, and subtract money, using real-life experiences.
The fraction cubes will allow students to use fine motor skills to put together and pull apart fractions. The Numberlink will assist in mastering number sense skills: counting, adding, and subtracting.
These math materials will offer fine motor skills and real-life experiences to meet the needs of sensory-impaired students.
