This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students learn differently than others, and I do all I can to provide them with all the tools and strategies to help them.

Special needs students may take twice as long to learn a concept or need to be taught skills other students develop naturally.

My classroom is a Specialized Learning Classroom (SLC) and I teach the students with the most severe learning challenges. Besides their physical and cognitive disabilities, the students are from all over our rural district. Most families are low income, many are migrant farmers. School is often the only place these students get the learning and therapies they desperately need.

Each one of my students are on a personalized learning plan. They may be learning to speak using a computerized voice, or making friends using cue cards, or learning to count by 5's and 10's using nickels and dimes. I take these small steps and turn them in to big victories for my students. Whatever the goal, when my student reaches a goal, it's a reason to celebrate!

My Project

As a special education teacher I am always on the look out for engaging materials that help students learn. Many of my students require materials they can touch and bright visuals in order to activate all parts of their brains. The Hand2Mind kit will provide just that.

With your support, I can help students learn basic letters and phonics!

These skills are so important for reading to develop and one of the biggest challenges for children with special needs. Reading and language skills are the hardest areas for my students to progress in.

We spend much of our day working on letters and words. Having diffrent materials to access the concepts in multiple ways really can increase their abilities. With the Hand2Mind kit, several sets are included, enough for a small group to work on. This is perfect for the type of work we do in special education.
