Help me give my students dry erase markers, laminating pouches, and story puppets for: Little Red Hen, 3 Little Pigs, 3 Billy Goats Gruff, and Old McDonald Had a Farm so they can further build their oral language.
I teach energetic, kind-hearted, enthusiastic students, in-person, in a French-Dual Language kindergarten classroom at a public school in Brooklyn. My students have a love for learning, in particular they are book-lovers. During read alouds, my students are full of excitement, eager to participate, full of questions, and anxious to share their connections with the book. My students are leaders who demonstrate a zest to become stronger readers everyday.
My Project
Dry erase makers will be used to practice letter and word formation and the laminating pouches will be used to create interactive word work games for literacy center time. In my classroom, my students are book-lovers who enjoy reading independently as well as listening to read alouds. As I was reading a book to my class, I noticed that my students were standing up to act out like characters from the book. One of my students, in fact, once asked me, "Ms. Palaguachi, do you have the puppets? We need puppets."
Acting out stories with puppets will further help my students build their oral skills such as building vocabulary, strengthen their story sequencing skills, and increase comprehension.
A few of my students are shy and quiet and with the puppets I aim to encourage them to be more verbal and feel that they are in a safe environment to share their thoughts. With the puppets, I want my students to continue to use their imagination and be creative.
