I teach in a rural school district in Arkansas. Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch. Many of our students have never been out of the town or seen what the world has to offer.
The students have such curiosity and untapped potential.
Even though we are a small school and small school district, we want to show our kids that with a little drive and imagination they can achieve anything. Every student deserves the best education possible and the opportunity to explore new and exciting things.
My Project
Students will use their creative, artistic abilities to transform the old hallway lockers into a magical bookshelf. They will sand and remove the old paint on the current lockers, then work diligently preparing the area for remodel. They will have to tape off certain areas to prevent damage to the school trophy case. After taping they will prime the lockers with spray paint. Once the primer is dry students will design book backings for each locker, picking different books from many different genres of literature. They will use the vinyl cutter to cut different book titles out and secure them on the painted book backing. This project allows for the students to update their school hallways all while displaying their creativity.
