Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school where the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and go home to non-English speaking families. Some of our students are the only English speaking people in their families.
Our school has students who are homeless.
We have many students who live at the shelter for abused and battered women and children. Many other students are living with two or three families in small apartments because they are homeless.
I make it my goal every year to supply my students with the supplies they need and hands-on experiences that they wouldn't get elsewhere. It’s very easy to tie a project or activity into the standards the kids are supposed to be learning. By getting our hands on what we’re learning, we learn even more. I love it when my students finish an activity and say what a great time they had and how much they learned. Our students are very bright and deserve every opportunity they get.
My Project
My students are a group of great kids and they have absolutely rocked this crazy school year! We returned to in person learning in August and the kids are so happy being back in school. Even though the school year has been different than normal, we're all so happy to be back together.
One thing that's very different is that our water fountain cannot be shared.
In preparation for the next school year I'd like to have water bottles available to my student on the first day of school. This will ensure that every student has water when they need it. The water bottles will allow them to have water at recess and PE as well.
