Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is trying to build up the music department, but has little in the way of instruments. Remember how fun and motivating learning to play an instrument was? My students are longing to learn how to play something they can be proud of.
My students come from an urban, diverse, and often low-income environment.
The school struggles to financially support the music department. My classes have a wide range of ability levels and behavioral/emotional needs. They love to keep their hands busy and learn new skills.
My Project
My students will learn how to play the guitar and apply what they're learning about reading music, accompanying a singer, and various musical cultures/genres. They will be able to guide their own learning and support the department through performances. My students need 12 starter guitars for my middle school music classroom to apply their learning and improve their skills.
My students will be more motivated to learn how to read music, which has proved to improve math and literacy skills.
In addition, my students will have something to be proud of and perhaps be inspired to further their learning outside the classroom.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
