Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, I'm a music teacher in West Harlem in NYC. Our school is considered a high needs school. 98 percent of our students qualify for free lunch. Although the students live in poverty, they are talented and determined to excel. The administration, parents and teachers all have high expectations for student achievement. Students work hard and their test scores last year were the highest in the region.
Our music department has started a guitar club for 5th and 6th graders with guitars that have been donated to the school. But, because of a tiny music budget, we do not have the funds to purchase instruction books.
Hal Leonard's Complete Guitar Method Book is like having two books in one. This book covers note reading on all of the strings and how to make chords. It has excellent graphics and pictures for student reference. It also comes with a CD of recorded tracks so the students can practice at home. The music selected covers a wide range of composers and song writers. It is one of the best instruction books on the market.
By contributing to this project, you would be helping student for years to come learn how to read and perform music on the guitar. The students in this program are so proud of themselves and what they have accomplished. Please help us take them to the next level by providing them with the resources they need to become excellent musicians.
